A partner at Chaitons LLP, Robert heads up the Real Estate Practice Group. With an emphasis on real estate development, his practice centres on all aspects of commercial real estate transactions. Rob works with various types of stakeholders including condominium, freehold and commercial property developers. In this regard, Rob has acted for developers of fractional condominium projects in Muskoka, Simcoe and Niagara and has also consulted on fractional projects in Quebec and Florida. In addition, he acts for purchasers, vendors and lenders (acquisition and equity) of commercial and residential income producing properties. His clients consist of private and public corporations, joint venture partners, co-tenancies and REITs. Rob also represents developers, buyers and sellers of all types of health care facilities, including retirement residences and long-term care facilities. Rob has also acted as independent counsel for sureties providing Tarion Bonds and Deposit Insurance Policies to condominium developers.
Called to the Bar in 1984, Rob graduated with his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1982 and obtained his B.A. from York University in 1979.
Rob has lectured and written on real-estate related topics for the Canadian Bar Association (Ontario), the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Institute. He is also a past instructor in the Real Estate Section of the Bar Admission Course. In addition, he has written articles on condominium-related topics for numerous publications. Rob is the firm’s association contact for the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD).
In his spare time, Rob enjoys playing golf and cycling. He has participated in several charity rides including those on behalf of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Beit Halochem Centres in Israel and Habitat for Humanity.
